The grand return of the Drieslagstelsels.

From Quinten’s review:

There’s a big grin on my face and it’s not going to come off for a few days. (…) The place was sold out, there were a few pretty disappointed faces at the entrance of people who couldn’t get in anymore. (…) Anyhoo, from the first minute it was clear it was gonna be a special night. They started off with… one of their old drieslagstelsels ! Just Buni/Simon/Roel/han on stage, Janek and Adrian remained backstage a little longer. I couldn’t believe my ears – I never thought I’d hear those songs live in my life. (…)

When they left, obviously the audience applauded for more. The band came back, doing Old Lampshade. Next was Drieslagstelsel 4 I think – from the days of the first album but not officially released. They always mix it with the theme from The Rolling Stones’ Paint It Black. (…) Just the idea that DAAU has rediscovered their own back catalogue is something to be happy about for a few weeks.

Lynx Festival. For this and the next day’s gig, DAAU was accompanied by the 60-piece orchestra Harmonie Ypriana, performing orchestral arrangements of their songs that by Adrian Lenski had written. They had prepared five songs and so had to repeat some songs each night as the audience wanted more! Thanks to moid.be, we have some truly excellent pictures of these unique events.

Possibly the last performance with Yanek on drums. (Or did he play the October gigs as well?)

02.08.2002 – Dranouter Folk Festival (B)

This was the third & final performance with Harmonie Ypriana, and I think Roel Poriau played drums.

During a Radio 1 interview before the set, Roel and Simon confirmed that this was Adriaan’s last performance with the group.

15.10.2002 – Lille (FR) – Aéroclub

For this and the following gigs, DAAU returned as a quartet – or maybe not? According to an online review at the time, there was a drummer onstage. Of course I’ve lost the source, but the same review also mentions that the gig lasted two and a half hours. That would make it by far the longest DAAU gig I’ve heard of … not sure what to make of it.
